There’s something about learning new skills that connects me right back to my roots. Growing up, my family did a lot of canning — mostly stewed tomatoes, beets, corn, salmon, sucker fish, venison (for beef and noodles, of course), pickles, and maybe even carrots. Those jars lined up on the shelves weren’t just food — they were a sign of hard work, care, and love. Each one meant we’d have something good to enjoy long after the harvest was over.
